TIL,
some dudes somewhere in the US bureaucracy decided if a coca bush is growing on your land, men with guns can come to your property, take you by force, and lock you in a cage.

😰
Wish it wasn’t so.
Plants are pretty cool and shouldn’t lead to cages 😢
Had a lot of coca tea in South America. I wanted to bring leaves back home for that reason, but didn't want to risk it.
There’s some really interesting ideas about the role coca leaves played in developing Incan society. Yeah, probably helps working hard at elevation if you have some sufficiently stimulating leaves to chew on 😅
Coca and marijuana plants as just plants are punishable but poppies are fine to grow and only processing can make them illegal. Psilocybin mushrooms growing in your yard are not punishable but grown inside your house they are, the cultivation or picking is where the crime begins AFAIK.
Put in that context you realize that attacking plant growing because you might be able to get high is a thought crime.
