I first read Atlas Shrugged in 1983. Blew me away. The second Rand book I read was the Fountainhead. I agree it's a better and easier to read novel and feels more personal. From then on I suggested the Fountainhead as the best Ayn Rand book to start with.

Having said that, the philosophical "punch" is to be found in Atlas Shrugged.

Agreed completely - read both as well. A lot of repetition in atlas shrug but it has standout moments and monologues.
