Today this cat sees if all the hype around NixOS is worth a hill of beans, or not.

I gave up lol

me too

Initial installation has been easy. What made you give up?

for me it was the whole worlflow. after 25yrs of linux, I couldn't make the switch in my head. don't miss nixos coz using nix when needed in fedora.

Just the steep learning curve for things that’re otherwise simple. Won’t make the time to dedicate learning how to functionalize everything since I won’t regularly use it. Setting up nix-bitcoin was a bitch & I never even fully finished

Exactly, a whole new language to learn, on top of the 20 we already learned in the last 20 years. Language builders just don't get cognitive load.

Im still wondering what the hype is. 😅

Idk dude. YouTube is blowing up with it right now.

I listened to a podcast recently (I think it was a bitcoin podcast) where NixOS wasent the subject but the 4 people did nothing *but* talk about NixOS.

so, 99% of linux youtubers moving from arch to nixos?? lol

Basically.

Well, is it?

I’m still finding out. So far, I’d say it depends on what you use your computer for.

It looks pretty sweet but I'm sticking to Pop OS while their power management actually works and almost every other hardware I can't suspend and wake up my pc properly.

Most likely when I get back to my comfort zone with a big desktop box I'll go to nix.

The only thing that annoys me is it sorta seems like they invented yet another language to specify packages instead of adapting something existing, one man can only make use of a limited number of different languages at once, goddammit.

That was my biggest hang up to starting this as well.

Can’t wait to see your impressions.

I’ve been running openSUSE MicroOS for a couple weeks and like the ease of use.

SuSE keeps selling itself. Makes me nervous. I really like Tumbleweed.

I’ve never tried normal Tumbleweed but I’ve heard good things.
