Just in case there are no other responses, I think being armed is essentially the status quo for evil-doers, so newly armed folks will almost entirely be good-doers, making it desirable. But my personal jury isnāt back yet on what the shape of the benefit vs % armed curve looks like and where we are on it.

I feel like most good-doers donāt have the desire to carry a weapon.
Would one feel safer in an environment where everyone is carrying a weapon instead of no one? I highly doubt that. But I havenāt been to a NRA Meetup yet so how would I know?
Give it a try. You could always sell the gun if you decide doesnāt suit you for minimal net cost. I donāt know what your familiarity with firearms is, but my interactions with people who arenāt very familiar with them is that the unknown creates a lot of unneeded discomfort for them. Similar to people who donāt know how to drive and worry about the safety of driving.
One stat is that concealed carry licensed individuals commit crime at a lower rate than police officers. Depending on who you are Iād bet youād feel safer walking with some police officers than if they were unarmed people.
I think itās great when people take the time to prepare themselves to protect themselves and others, and to take that role seriously. Itās mostly a question of the ratio of those people to the baddies in my mind.

Wouldnāt want to put any of my precious Sats in firearms tho. Feel like there are more constructive ways to spend my money.
Iād say I wouldnāt feel safer with a bunch of armed people around me, protecting me. But maybe this is idealism.
