Yes, have them open Mutiny in their browser. Send them sats. I do it all the time.

share next time ... i mean: all the time

waiting

It's even easier than downloading a custodial app. Check it out

https://www.mutinywallet.com/

However getting your first payment to any self-custody wallet requires opening a channel, which comes with fees, so you can’t just download and get a bunch of zaps for 21 sats. That’s kind of the magical experience that custodial wallets offer, but it hides the inner workings of the network.

so how munch to open a channel w Mutiny ?

A self-custodian LN wallet for a newbie is no different to a custodian wallet. If you want to self-custody coins you do that on the main chain not on the 2nd layer.

But when fees become more expensive it discourages on-chain activity and pushes more people to layer 2 and custodians.

That’s nature

Agreed but if you're at a super busy venue (the Rock Cafe) your waiter probably wont have the time to sit down with you for a crash course of best practices when it comes to Bitcoin, channels, LN and co. What is important is that we were out there all day long pitching Bitcoin to everyone who would listen, paid everywhere with Bitcoin even if they thought they're not accepting Bitcoin while having fun and enjoying ourselves.

If anyone would have turned around to tell me that they want to put their lifesavings into Bitcoin I would sit down with them to discuss self-custody and best practices and if I did 2nd layer wouldn't be a topic for their "wealth" storage.

worst case, they delete the app and the sats get redistributed or burned. Either way a win for everyone else. But if they don't delete the app they might start studying Bitcoin and then they can self-custody as they deem fit.

You’re not wrong. It just concerns me that people who have been introduced through WoS are going to be in for a rude awakening soon when the app stops working and they can’t get their money out. They might never come back because they’ll assume it was bitcoin that rugged them.

I think Strike is probably the best custodial wallet for no-coiners. It just “feels” more familiar like Venmo.

remember we're not in the US. He'll be fine for now and he was very cool and from Colombia. I had a blast chatting to him in Spanish while we were downing our Mojitos munching nachos. It doesn't matter if he burns his tip, it was just fun and if he doesn't burn them it was a win.

Fuck off

how can you use a wallet run by people faking their identity? it doesn't sound clever to me

It’s rather smart

Imagine believing that opening a channel for a random person on 2nd layer bitcoin is actual self custody.

so you self-custody people onto 2nd layer bitcoin? lol
