Ha, word! And good shrinks don’t lie about it, in fact. They work with what they’ve got to help people be functionally independent and not have to remain committed as a ward of the state.

In college, I worked for a time keeping people company who had a schizophrenic break, had left hospital and needed to rest in an assisted house for a day or two before going home. It was a process of coming to terms with the functional requirements of their situation, should they want to be in society without harming themselves or others.

In a lot of ways they were much more sensitive to their environment than anyone else I’ve known, it’s just the way their environment is coded is quite different.
