Your ISP will eventually block nostr relays. No, VPNs are not the solution.
Discussion
Had lots of ISP discussions with friends lately. Self hosting doesn’t solve the problem either. Overlooked issue that is not discussed enough. It’s the most obvious attack vector out there.
There's no solution to ISP level blocking unless you build a parallel internet using mesh networks and conecting ethernet cables to your neighbors router.
Your ISP is literally your gateway. They can block all vnd endpoints and Tor guard nodes.
Them doing that in a systematic way would be very obvious and harsh and the end of the "open" internet as we know it.
Well its coming...
Doubt it
Like half the planet doesnt have uncensored access to the internet.
That access is permissioned. As long as you use an ISP, there is no way around it.
No matter the anonimization tech you use, you always need to announce an "entry IP" which can get blocked.
So you doubt an end to the open internet will ever happen?
If it did, it would be so different enough from the current internet that still calling it "internet" would be incredibility misleading.
I'm talking about infrastructure. We would need a parallel infrastructure to be independent from ISPs.
If a combination of HAM radios, wifi mesh and consumer drones can create a rival parallel network, it would not make sense to still call it "the internet"
