i don’t think likes should have any contributing value in trending notes algorithm. obviously people will keep liking notes until they’re gone, and i do too, but it shouldn’t count toward the signal at all.

If "signal" = only npubs w/zaps, then âś… ...If "signal" = anyone, even people w/o functional zaps, then likes/reacts matter.
Reacts/likes are also alternative noting w/ efficiency when you can't/don't wanna spend time/focus forming a sentence/response.

Know what you mean. Zaps (number & value) should be the main driver wether a Nostr post is trending since that is real value (Bitcoin). Yeah, that’s a quite good idea.
