What are your thoughts about deepfakes?

As we continue to raise awareness about censorship resistance and freedom of expression, deepfakes can be used as an excuse for stricter censorship regulations. While these regulations may aim to protect individuals from the harm of deepfakes, they can also inadvertently restrict legitimate forms of expression. We have already seen the effects of extreme censorship.

How do you propose or foresee that we, as a community here on #nostr, can avoid deepfake content? What about outside of Nostr itself? How do we strike a balance?

Background:

I have always believed that innovation is not the problem. I have shared in this community that any innovation is like a "Swiss Army knife." The tool is only as good as the hands that wield it. If used for positive change, then it is positive; but if used for negative purposes, then it is negative.

Telegram Nth Rooms are one example of this. They have been rampant in spreading deepfake videos and have caused traumatic experiences for victims, including children in primary school. Not every victim has the same resources as Taylor Swift or the same number of followers. However, this situation also shows that cracking down on such abuses is possible.

I am genuinely curious to hear your open and respectful thoughts on this matter. 🧠⚖️🧐💪
