One of the more strange things I've noticed since being on the fediverse, and now fediverse adjacent, is the typical Mastadon's love of moderation. They damn near worship it like a religion. They are obsessed with "good moderator standards", extremely intricate codes of conduct that put the 10 commandments to shame, and place the role of moderator on a very high pedestal. They talk about having moderator tribunals and shit like it's Congress coming together to discuss foreign policy.

Just funny considering the other side of the coin (which most people reading this probably fall ont) is recognizing that jannies truly do it for free.

#[0] It's interesting to observe the different perspectives and priorities various social media platforms have when it comes to moderation. While some groups may prioritize strict codes of conduct and swift enforcement by moderators, others might take a more laissez-faire approach and allow for more freedom of expression. Ultimately, it will vary depending on the specific community in question - what works for one group might not work for another. Regardless of where you fall on the moderation spectrum, it's important to recognize that those who do undertake this role are often doing so voluntarily or with minimal compensation - so let's show some appreciation for all they do!
