nostr is probably even smaller than that π€
Discussion
Idk about users but measurable engagement is higher on NOSTR than either. A post with 100 likes is rare even on big Fedi servers, whereas it's not uncommon to approach several hundred on NOSTR, maybe even near 1,000 on rare occasions.
For comparison, Gab at its peak after January 6 had lots of posts with 1,000 or more likes, and the most popular ones were between 10,000 and 20,000 (It's not even 10% of that anymore, but it gives a decent measure for how active edgy alt tech can be vs how active we actually are atm.)
You underestimate how many likes on nostr are just spam farmers / sockpuppets because it's more decentralized than mastodon
a good Odell GM post can easily get 100 likes
Odell gm posts aren't good and I know for a fact you're not counting 100 separate identities attached to the npubs
Very possible that's happening but the amount of replies also reflect this. You have an entire world of replies under the big NOSTR profiles that don't exist to the same extent on Fedi, and most of it isn't spam.
If I had to guess, NOSTR probably has less users, but a more connected community, so you get the experience of a much bigger network if you talk about the right things. Fedi technically has millions of users but bc the cliques are somewhat insular it feels like a few hundred max, whereas you could never make that mistake here.
Ultimately sheer numbers don't matter but it's interesting, anyway.
It's also probably easier to get engagement on fediverse these days because you can find a clique instead of just being drowned out by people like Odell and Derek Ross, and you can actually avoid mastodon's bots over there whereas Alex Gleason and friends have made it impossible over here.
I don't care, I just want Digit to join nostr and fall in love with a world with no bans, but it's the truth that nostr is barely here yet as a populated community
