#asknostr I’ve been thinking about something. Below is a promotion my local chamber runs to promote shopping local. Could this arrangement be done by the chamber establishing a mint? I have no experience with mints. Looking for ideas….

Chamber Bucks are just like CASH. We encourage your business to take Chamber Bucks if you do not already. It’s a great way for people to spend money locally. We do understand if your payment system does not allow you to participate in this program.

We like to keep a current list of our Chamber members who do take Chamber Bucks so that we can let people know where they can spend their BUCKS.

Technically yes, but it would add quite a bit more friction for the three kinds of entities involved.

- someone would need to operate the mint

- businesses and consumers would need to become part of the mint

- all participants would need mobile devices and training on use

These programs are generally intended to promote more velocity in local spending as a kind of hot potato fiat. Ive only seen implementations using paper gift certificate style that people can read, and usially a single denomimation for all vouchers. They could just as easily take a stack of paper USD-20s and stamp "Spendable in XYZ counties" on them but by issuing their own they can make money out of air.
