In my country there are a multitude of rules about who you can hire. If the smartest person for the job happens to be all the correct tick boxes then you win but if the best person for the job happens to be a white male then it’s a no go and you end up with someone else, plan B or C depending on the ticks again.

The sad part is that now there are young people who feel unsure about whether they were ever the smartest in the room or if they were pushed up because they meet the tickbox requirements. And they have the same reservations about their managers.

Their confidence has taken a big knock and I’m not sure how to reassure them 🤷🏼‍♀️
