also if i go on my main account on desktop (instead of amethyst), i literally see me talking to me in this thread mostly. a lot of messages are missing. how could that be?

Relays configuration. The person in the thread is posting to relays you’re not connected to, therefore you can’t see his posts. Try connecting to at least one of the relays he is connected to and the problem should be resolved
