The new default, v30 should enable node runners to reduce OP_RETURN as much as they want vs the new default that’s 100K bytes, which would mitigate current tensions vs Knots.

Absolutely but this feature is deprecated, meaning it may be dumped in future releases, meaning 100K bytes will be the untouchable default.

And the whole “problem” is that people can dump useless data in the blockchain. Right?

It's a pointless discussion. Nothing has changed. No hard fork, no soft fork. Everything #bitcoin could do before the discussion, it can do just as well now. It has something to do with politics, and L. Dashjr just knows how to exploit it.
