We are mostly open-source, sir!

Our browser extension holds your Nostr keys... but we don't!

Nsec in the Alby extension is used to sign nostr events locally, and it never leaves the machine - is not sent to any nostr clients, neither to us!

Ie: We don't hold your nostr keys, your browser does, secured with our open-source extension

As per custodial Alby Account, that we also provide: We also don't necessarily like having some sats of yours - we encourage users to go non-custodial and stay FOSS!

Also remember, that our extension can be connected to any lightning node, not only your Alby Account - then you can be both open-source and non-custodial 😃

And for lots of convenience, Alby is a great tool.

I really appreciate this answer and meant no good to Alby in general, just I like open source software!

What do you mean by "Mostly" Open source? I dont mean that in a bad way, im just genuinely curious! ((this perhaps is connected to the text I write in the next parragraph I imagine, If not, please let me know!)

So, In order for me to use Alby in a non custodial way, what I would need to do is to run my own lightning node Im I correct?

Wow I really appreciate this message! Gonna zap you some sats for that as I respect a lot what you just did! All the best for you all in your endevours!

You can check on our github, we are open-sourcing almost every code that we use.

Yes, to use lightning in a non-custodial way you need to run your own node - there are few solutions that make it easier for a new user, but this is not super convenient for most.

You can use our open-source extension to connect to lightning node of any type, and its custody is up to you 😉
