I don’t think it’s that straight forward. What often starts as self determination ends as an orgy of corruption. Humans 🤷♂️
He was enabled, and people fell under a spell. Much like today with powerful manipulation of news
This has roots in ww2. The Nazis were pioneers in the then new technology of radio for propaganda. It's only got worse in the intervening century. See also Edward Bernays. Americans are some of the most propagandized people in all of history.
