Spot on; if I may add something, Guy Debord as well as Baudrillard argue that capitalists and communists have, in the first case explicitly, in the second case implicitly, accepted and promoted pseudo-needs, as something essential to our being. Debord in his analysis of the Commodity as Spectacle, concludes that exactly those pseudo-needs will drive the economic system to overheat thereby crashing it.
