Just wanted to clarify some confusion I often see when users ask "how to verify yourself with NIP-05" kind of questions, because they used to think a checkmark means a user is verified.

As you correctly stated, NIP-05 just allows to add an alias to a pubkey.

Thanks a lot for your work and products, btw!

PS: when Alby NIP-57 support? 😉

I think there are cases were it is a form of verification though.

Would any old guy named Jack have a NIP-05 on cash.app?

Yes, it could work in some cases when there's a known DNS domain and they want to announce which pubkey relates to the domain.

Companies could use to set the official pubkey, for example.

What I wanted to explain is that just having a NIP-05 alias set doesn't verify anything per-se.
