If you are using an #Apple #iOS device, I at least believe you should update ASAP to 17.4.

With iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 Apple is introducing a "state-of-the-art" post-quantum cryptographic protocol for iMessage called PQ3.

PQ3 will supposedly protect against "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" attacks where a malicious actor collects encrypted data with the hope of decrypting it with a quantum computer at some point in the future.

Quantum computers are expected to eventually be able to make large-scale calculations that would allow them to decrypt content secured with traditional encryption methods, but that apparently won't be possible with PQ3.

What’s the deal with PQ3? I saw the announcement from Apple but hadn’t heard of this and they’re the only ones doing it?

Lots of others (I.e., Signal, Threema, etc) including some VPN providers have already implemented quantum-resistant encryption. Apple is just now doing it and they claim there's is the best. Of course, it's proprietary, so can't view source to confirm.

I'm not one of those people I swear

“Yeah my girlfriend is super hot but no you can’t see her, she goes to a different school” vibes

This isn’t Apple who told the FBI to suck a dick after San Bernardino - they’re far too close to the US Gov nowadays and I really don’t trust them much any more

Yeah the secrecy around such a protocol is sus. As long as it’s not openly vetted by multiple cryptography experts, I’ll assume that it’s backdoored by the CIA and NSA.

How dare you doubt that Apple’s girlfriend is super hot!

Assuming a backdoor is prob a good idea 👍

Wait who's back door... Apple's or...? 😂

even a 8 y/o iphone 6s gets an update today, i guess its PQ3 compliant phone

It's a security update, but not sure if it's getting the new iMessage. Hopefully!

Where is the source code?

Using Nostr from iOS is like using LibreOffice on Windows, like trading in Bitcoin only to convert it all into Fiat currency or like boasting about the conquered freedom when you never got out of prison.
