The extended family Christmas gathering was this past weekend. We do a "white elephant" gift exchange. No idea how it got that name but essentially everyone brings one gift around a certain dollar amount and by playing some games we exchange gifts randomly.

I was the only person that actually made something (walnut bread bow knife). I try to encourage the family to be PRODUCERS and not CONSUMERS. The mindset shift can be challenging when the consumer option is so much easier.

Between my wife and I, we rarely drink and only keep a few bottles of wine in the house. We ended up with gifts of beer and vodka. 🤣 (2 of 3 alcohol related gifts in the exchange)

The vodka has already been designated to make medicinal tinctures.

Interesting perspective. Many of the gifts I gave this year were a variety of fermented foods and preserves. I thought maybe I was being kinda cheap.

We've done that too in different conditions than described here and have found that it depends upon the recipient. We learned who appreciated it and who came across rather indifferent for something we take great pride in.
