I think, volumes of details to be learned and sorted are endless, but from a macro perspective there is also an absolute final point which is also possible to arrive to. At that point, sorting next details does not get you any further. You stand still and increase a pile of sorted details next to you. Those sorted details do help somebody else to get closer to where you already are, so they are not pointless.
Actually, not only Buddha's life but also the 3rd Noble Truth confirms that the final destination exists. The 4th says that there is a path to it.
