I just tested the #bitchat built by nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m . I can send messages smoothly without Internet. The chat history disappears after exiting the App. It is said that you can send Bluetooth messages to people far away, but you can't find people farther away. It can't be tested yet.

There is a small problem that the other party cannot receive the long text sent by Cashu sats. Sending a sats link of Cashu will cause the App to crash.

Bluetooth is NOT a long-range tech.

The long range assumption relies on the mesh network where each user w/ Bluetooth/bitchat acts as a relay. So the more the users the longer the range (same as find my technology)

Got it, thank you. The range limitation of Bluetooth communication will divide the mountains, rivers and seas into local area network communication networks. There is no transmission method like nostr relay.

A maximum possible range of 6,889 feet, which is just over a mile. #meshtastic can do better. I commonly see several nodes from 18 miles away and I've heard of people being able to talk 40 or 50 miles through the mesh.

The above is not to suggest that it is a bad thing. But you should absolutely know what to expect.

As I said, it’s akin to “find my” technology: the more the users, the farther the range. But since the inherent technology is BTE, you need to find a relaying device close by: 10-100 feet. I think BTE 5 has a longer range than 100 feet.

Well, it stops at 7 hops. The maximum possible range for Bluetooth is 300 meters. So if you take 300 meters and multiply it by 7, that's how I got that number.

I didn’t know about 7 hops. Thanks for the knowledge.
