Today in 1520, 503 years ago: In Santiago de Compostela, Spain, a large crowd leads a street revolt against the extraordinary tax approved by King Charles I to defray the expenses of his election as Holy Roman Emperor (loans, bribes and travel). The crowd arrested the representative of the Cortes and threatened to hang him for not repealing the tax.
