A forecaster is an instantaneous transportation device. Forecasters allow two points separated by a vast distance to be brought together at a Portal. The Forecaster network connects hundreds of planets into their world. The Forecaster network allowed transport between connected worlds without any time discrepancy, unlike a terrible Back to the Future reference.

It was the destruction of the forecaster at the order of the Redstones which precipitated the Fall.
