The Knots vs Core debate reminds me of the vaccine divide of 2021

People looking to their favorite influences to see what side they're on

People picking sides and trying to shame anyone who doesn't agree

People virtue signaling trying to recruit others to "their side"

People constantly looking to others to confirm their own beliefs

My take?

People should focus more on adding value to the world and learning how to secure their sats instead

It's clearly not going to make or break Bitcoin so run whatever the fuck you want

If dip shits putting jpegs on the blockchain is going to kill Bitcoin, I need to find a better store of value

Screens work great for keeping out flies. Can't get them all. But I still try. I don't want a house full of flies. I think it's important for bitcoin to be money only and sometimes good things need to be fought for. I also agree with what you say about most people just confirming bias. And we should focus on building first. For me, I go by how I feel about the individuals intentions. For me, the knots folks feel way more trustworthy. Am I stupid for following my gut? Maybe. It's worked for me so far. Could it break bitcoin. Probably not. But why not fight for the best future?

A good screen keeps all flies out.

Sure. But out of what sized container. Can't contain the whole world.

And we tend to need doors.

And to relate it to the vaccine debate is interesting. Of course I want to voicemy view to my loved ones if I think they are in danger. It's important to talk about our POV.

I see your points but failing to understand what an ā€œattackā€ on bitcoin is or looks like is a potential problem. Not now, not today as you pointed out jpegs on chain are not a threat but the fact that core is behaving in a way that is not good for the many and instead is good for them is concerning.

I also think that knots is the immune response that was needed.

Be prepared

I agree. It's not about the jpegs. It's about the can of worms that it opens. And almost everyone "in bitcoin", doesn't really get it and are fine with it failing for their own gains. Most everyone wants fiat gains whether they admit it or not.

Always alert.

I the core as going AGAINST Satoshi… I learned a long time ago that if you simply align with the ethos of Satoshi then you can’t fail!! Since I’ve taken that stance I have stopped losing sats left n right!! Bitcoin = MONEY nowhere enough people scream that from the roofs!! It’s a protocol for MONEY not a protocol for nostr šŸ’Æ

I do hear what you are saying. Most opinions are just virtue signalling with no real backing.

One of these pro-spammers, nostr:nprofile1qqs9a3xq8djjqtpdx258kga0e92kvvvxcll9t4rmt7n9ugcaqt0pmgcpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7apv7j0 , just got caught bragging in X.com about purposefully requesting IBD (initial blockchain download) repeatedly from Knots nodes in order to exhaust these node runners' internet data quotas / cap.

They usually are. Not suprisising.

Well said

I believe that for most is no longer about the spam debate, it’s about ā€œsmellyā€ behaviour that cannot be justified.

I always try to see all sides of a debate and find reasons, but core has contradicted itself more than once and I really fail to see how they can be justified (for example like in the below contradiction):

- Core: ā€œfiltering spam is not acceptable as censorship is not acceptable and not the solution, and if you don’t like what we are doing just run another btc software implementationā€

-Plebs: ā€œok got it, then I’ll run Knotsā€

- Core: Bans Knots nodes

If someone can help me see a reasonable explanation here please let me know (not hironic)

So true, Jorr. I asked you a question about this on your podcast recently (first time commenting) and agree that both sides are being bad. It's a silly divide for bored people, I think. Your perspective of not really taking a side was one that I hadn't heard yet, I had just gotten fear-mongering from social media and YouTube. All is good in the hood!

Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts! It’s always refreshing to hear different perspectives. Sometimes, stepping back from the noise can lead to a clearer view. Here’s to finding common ground and keeping the conversation going! 🌟
