Patriotism is idiotic. Be prepared to be location-agnostic. Go where you are treated best is a good mantra.
I would love to be in a situation where I had a second passport and a residence permit somewhere else.

I learned it late and to a certain extent it hurt to recognize it
Where would you go if you could go anywhere?
You know, I'm not totally sure. Malaysia is an option, South America has a few decent countries as well. Maybe Eastern Europe as well?
Georgia, Azerbaijan, Equador and Cambodia are good places to open bank accounts to get oneself started on the path to a second citizenship.
I need to do a lot more research on the specific places I would consider for sure.
Nomad Capitalist is my primary source for info on the subject at the moment.
Interesting, I didn’t expect Malaysia as an option. Georgia and Azerbaijan would be interesting for sure as well as Eastern Europe. I have a friend who recently moved to Estonia but I haven’t spoken with him in a while.
I have visited Paraguay and really enjoyed, it felt like very low regulation and very Wild West also low development outside the major cities I know they have an abundance of cheap energy and Saz Bitcoin mining is setting up some operations there.
What are your thoughts on El Salvador? I’m planning to visit there this year.
My wife is from Brazil so I can live there but it seems like it’s pretty hostile to business. I live in a progressive state in the US so it almost seems better to just move to lower tax more business friendly state inside the country. It’s tough with so many factors to consider, Family, network, job, regulations, freedoms, safety etc.
Tell me about it. Canada largely acts like a "progressive" US state. I would argue it's worse on the whole than places like California. There's not many ways to escape the stupid here even when moving provinces, whereas the states are all governed very differently.
Federal governments are shit no matter where you go I feel.
I know Andrew Henderson talks about El Salvador with some regularity but I haven't looked into that as a destination much. My apologies for not being more helpful in that regard. I'll look into it a bit more!
One could argue that the bulk of human problems occurred when we stopped being able to easily move away from one another if needed.
This is the way. Especially in the USA. Each state matters.
It is possible to love one's country and not its magistrate. The rightly ordered love of country actually makes the dissatisfaction with and rejection of bad governing bodies all the more acute.
Im not arguing against going where one is treated better—a second passport can be prudent—rather, against the idea that patriotism is idiotic.
As an interesting side note, the word idiot in the Greek means "pertaining to ones own self." As I understand it, the context is of a private person (a plebian!) not engaged in public affairs (not contributing to the public civil sphere and only to his own affairs).
I do like this response! Very good!
The reason I made my statement is because the most common response I've ever gotten to expressing that I'm uninterested in remaining in a country with an actively hostile government (🇨🇦) is something along the lines of disgust that I could be so unpatriotic and that I should be ashamed of that.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness and lack of shaming on the subject! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
