Would make great backplates for moose heads.

That would be cool. My concern would be the beauty of the wood distracting from what's supposed to be the focal point. (This is also considerably larger I think, about 4ft diameter.)

Good point. I've been looking for an old resinous stump to cut very nice backboard from but it's true it that it's beautiful by itself.

If you find something with cool edge character you could paint it and get the character without the distraction.
