One more tip for future node owners.

Saving for the hardware and thinking that you can have a node once you install all needed software, is not sufficient! You will need to find your node with some bitcoin to have outbound and inbound liquidity. Every channel you open, “converts” onchain funds into LN sats. Whatever your put into it, will define how big your channel will be. For inbound, you can purchase liquidity, but that will not allow you to send, only receive.

Good advice! This is one part of it that I didn’t fully understand before I started!

Lol! Me too! People don’t realize this and ask for zaps to build their node. Then what? Channel-less node! 🐶🐾😂🤣😂🫂

Even when I started opening my initial channels I found that I still couldn’t reliably send because I hadn’t picked good well connected nodes. Once it started to work though I got addicted to opening channels, lol. Now I don’t have any issues sending!

I have to many inbound channels with little outbound to shuffle around them! I think I spent too much on Magma 🐶🐾🤣😂🫂

I tried Magma for the first time a couple of days ago. Mine is pretty well balanced with inbound vs outbound at the moment.

I need to wait another month and hope that fiat->bitcoin will not go to high to do that! 🐶🐾😭

Yeah, I would like to set up a routing node. Probably a fast connection and decent server and have BTC liquidity like you are talking about.

Opening channels.. lots of things to learn as usual.

It hasn’t been easy but I sure learned a lot! 🐶🐾🫡

I have been watching YT videos on starting and running nodes. I need to just start. Thats how I learn the fastest. Break things, rebuild etc

Yes! Be prepared to lose some sats because you didn’t know better. Part of the learning! 🐶🐾🫡🤣

There is no perfect setup, but we run a group where you can learn how to start.

You’re always welcome!

Hey! This is super helpful also thanks! I will check it out. 😃🤙

I have seen the BTC liquidity the largest nodes have. It is a lot. Its nice to see how everything works.

Opening channel connections - that looks interesting.

Balancing - liquidity for both directions ( I don’t understand how yet )

Can you share some videos that are beginner friendly please ? 🙏🏼

Daniel and Fishcake you are likely talking to. I know very little on nodes.

Here’s a pretty simple demonstration of channel balancing in Ride the Lightning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09tLEZM4MgQ

Will take the time to learn the concepts 💜 thanks 💜

Thanks 🫂💜

I am applying to join the Telegram group

Very cool Daniel!

I have heard of “ride the lightning”

I think I need to get started on my node soon

Have you considered the plug and play Lightning nodes along side the Raspberry Pi? I was surfing #[6] ‘s website looking at options the other week. https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/full-node.html#hardware

I’m not sure I wanna spend all the time to configure a Raspberry Pi 😅

Big thanks, dude! 👏👏
