I only have an old Macbook. (No M1) When I had courses that required Windows or Linux I would just have a virtual machine on my laptop. Maybe that would be a good first step for you.
Here is a tutorial that looks simple enough. Although do your own research! Do what works for you.

I had no idea what he says at end about re-booting but will def try.
What distro do you use when you use linux?
Looking back at my notes I used Oracle VirtualBox. It worked fine. But I don't know if its the best. My teacher just recommended it.
