Today I've decided to download Android Studio and start building something. I'm not a developer by any stretch, although I'm not completely new to coding, so I might actually manage to make something worthy of my spare time. Wish me luck!

A good start could be helping out with an existing project? Fixing bugs, testing, adding minor features.
This will teach you application design and coding!
Honestly, I don't think I'm there yet. My coding skills come from cli user perspective and experience as data analyst.
I can build some basic pipelines and stuff but I wouldn't trust myself fixing anyone's bugs 😅
Just enough knowledge to be dangerous.

Seriously... Don't underestimate your capacity and open source development.
It's a tried and tested track... Fix documentation, improve test coverage, fix some bugs... And before you know it you are adding features.
Everything you submit is reviewed and you will get great comments on how to improve things!
