Day 67: #grownostr initiative

Its almost time to harvest some okra. I like to slice and dredge them in egg and corn meal and fry them in oil until crispy. Simply season with a little salt and pepper out of the oil. Pair them with sliced tomatoes--it doesn't get much better to me. How does everyone else like okra?

Fried like you said is great. I even like to soft boil young pods. Also try oven roasted slices with a little oil till crispy. I cut and freeze a lot for soup thickener in the winter(pre freeze on a cookie sheet before storage bag avoids the massive chunk and allows taking out only the amount you need). And then finally —- pickled okra!!!!! #grownostr

That is awesome. Thanks for the great response and tips.

You must be in the Deep South to have okra that far along. Enjoy!!!

I live in northeast Oklahoma.

Pickled! Lower carb way to use them. I dice the pickled okra and use them in egg salad etc. for texture and umami

I love pickled okra but I've never used them as an ingredient, always just eating them as a stand alone item. I am definitely going to try that now. Thanks.

Oh I planted okra this year! How are they raw? I'm excited to try them fresh.
