I always read the ultimate enlightenment part of the Siddhartha Gautama story as an act of sheer stubbornness rather than his prior (fruitless) exploratory actions.

For each it is different, almost all enlightenments required willful intention. I know of one exception to that, though. Careful with your sex and drug combos...

Or rip open the door then figure out how to ratchet down the fire hose of knowledge. I suspect there are lots of "mentally ill" people walking the streets who only figured out the "rip open the door" part
