The issue I’m pointing out is not that some people send 50 sats or less, but that 82% of zaps are that amount. Many conclusions can be drawn from this data.
Discussion
Okay, now I understand this part better. Are you willing to elaborate why you think it’s problematic.
It seems logical to me, that small amounts make the most zaps, while higher zaps are less often made and therefore more exclusive.
I agree with the premise, and I did consider that. What I find problematic about it is in the high percentage of micro zaps, and also in what it implies if most zaps are tiny in value. To me it implies some combination of the following:
- nostr users consider zaps to be gimmicky
- nostr users don’t properly value good quality content
- there isn’t enough good quality content on Nostr
- nostr users/bitcoiners are not actually willing to use bitcoin as a transactional currency
Nostr is small, no doubt. So I don’t expect to see individual creators/users to be earning a lot of money here yet. But, I am surprised that we don’t see a higher percentage of zaps being larger in value, as there is actually some great content here already.
