I have waaaay more Aloe Vera than I know what to do with.

Would be great if I can somehow make a small income out of it. Anyone any ideas?

All suggestions welcome! #homesteading #permies #permaculture

Thank you

You could make some skin care ointments

The most potent glyconutrients in aloe die within 1.5 hours of being cut from the plant.

use your aloe to isolate why.

Is this still true if I froze the aloe?

Interesting 🤔 I dont know!

I read a research paper on those glyconutrients years ago. They increase reflex times for some reason. Maybe they increase the speed of the signal from the brain to the muscle. At any rate, aloe has some of the highest concentrations of them of any plant.

There was a company that isolated and stabilized them in the early 2000s, but they got so extreme in their intent to prevent others from using similar processes through litigation, they fell out of favor and went under. Its been too long since i read all that stuff 🤓

Fascinating! Do you have an idea where I might find some of this info? Tried a YouTube search yesterday but it was fruitless.

You could feed it to your weeds soil, very beneficial

I believe it makes my compost very nutritious .. is that kind of what you meant?

And yes I do use that compost for my weed .. So I guess that’s what you meant 😊

No there is actually saponins in aloe that increase the soils ability to intake water and their is a compound called alloein which is useful to the production of trichomes

Use it fresh just squeeze a a leaf into water and give to plant

OK great! Thank you. I understand that alloin is the toxic yellow stuff that we try to remove when preparing it for eating. If that’s the case then that’s a perfect use for something that would otherwise get tossed down the drain.

Thanks again - you inspired me to look this up and I found a great page with some nice tips https://homesteadandchill.com/how-to-grow-aloe-vera/

Aloe, malted barley, sprouted seed teas

These are the main admendments i use, you use any different ones? Would love to hear

Wow interesting! To be honest I don’t (yet) use any soil amendments. I’ve just been growing veggies using my own compost and not much else, and then recently did a couple of outdoor weed plants using the same.. they turned out OK but I had to put them up on the roof as it’s the only place that doesn’t have light pollution from my neighbours. It’s a great spot, gets the sun all day and no light all night. Also good for OPSEC :)

Sounds like you’re a serious grower. And sounds like I have a lot more learning to do.. malted barley and sprouted seed teas just wow never even heard of them!

Do you grow other stuff as well or focus mainly on weed?

Just weed mainly, only have 3 months of summer so i dont get much outdoor time. Youll see boosted growth on any plant if you feed the soil those blended up seeds 2-3x a week. One aloe leaf squeezed into a couple litres then watered into soil 1-2x a week. After 6-12 months of doing that regularly than you can slow down

Thank you, friend :)

Man I love Nostr this is so great
