It will help with bots and CSAM (a high percentage of the CSAM bots and various types of CSE distributed on X are from those areas) without requiring an ID (for now) CSE Bots typically sell/distribute the CSE links with 5k-15k abuse images/videos.

It’s for new accounts so this targets those issues specifically. When they remove accounts new accounts will face a bit of friction returning. They will probably change their tactics as a result of the credit card and the $1.

There was an issue going on last month with bots tweeting CSAM links 100 times per minute under a hashtag used for a word that most folks use everyday. This has happened previously, not just under Elons leadership. (I’m not at liberty to discuss that specific situation any further in public)

I’d rather have them do the credit card over ID but required ID is coming either way, globally.

On the flip side, I don’t like it from a broader human rights perspective. Everyone doesn’t have a credit card and I believe those individuals still deserve an opportunity to speak and I don’t trust X to keep that credit card information safe. Grateful that Nostr exists!

If nostr gets to the size of X or anywhere near it there will be similar problems, unfortunately.

Instead of looking at the situation and thinking about X, I’m looking at it like, “If CSE bot farms leave X because it becomes too costly or dangerous where will they go? Will they come to Nostr? Is Nostr prepared for the problem?”

I don’t think that the CSE bots will come to Nostr right now because there aren’t enough active users… yet. No shade. I hope that I’m right about that one. I might not be tho.
