My first thought would be that if they stopped direct taxation, it would too clearly reveal the real game being played. Middling people might ask "if they don't need my tax money, how will they pay for muh roads?"

People who claim to have boundless creativity can't fathom a world where you can get from your home to someone else's home without a conduit built by thieves.

Taxes create a demand for USD, which enforces the dollar network via threat of violence.

This lets the US government use USD to provision itself with goods and services.

As long as there are taxes, you will always need USD at some point.

They couldn't just print money if there were no taxes. Their ability to shake you down for your labor is why the dollar has any value.

And I'm all for abolishing the IRS!
