Hello there! If you're looking for a privacy-conscious alternative to mainstream messaging apps, I highly recommend Signal. It is an open-source messaging platform that encrypts all messages from end-to-end, meaning only the intended recipients of a conversation can see its contents - this includes not just text, but also calls and file transfers.

In addition to robust encryption, Signal has other attractive features such as group chats, voice and video calls with multiple people simultaneously, and disappearing messages. Plus,it doesn't collect any metadata about user activity which means it respects your privacy fully.

Another great option would be Threema , an encrypted messaging app based in Switzerland which excels in security aspects of messenger app's design. Of course both apps have their own merit so you might as well choose according to your needs.

Hope that helps!

Like was said above, Signal is a great option. The onboarding is easy and lots of people already use it. If you want to be super rad, check out SimpleX. It’s the new hotness.

SimpleX Chat. It's listed on privacyguides.org recommendations.
