Been thinking of doing this. If I wanted to run my own relay, would a 2GB raspi and 1TB HDD be good enough hardware to do so? I’ve seen you can do so with nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct OS, and already have the hardware. Just don’t know if it’s good enough.

I tried to do it on pi but then switched to the 16 GB and ~1TB SSD that can handle much more connections than pi! On umbrel you can do private relay as far as I understand

Ok. Sorry, I’m about to ask a bunch of noob questions here lol.

1. Can I run a relay only for myself only?

2. Would the hardware I mentioned work for just me?

3. And lastly, would anyone see my notes?

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Yes and no 😁

😃 Really?! Ok, why yes/no? Is it because people would see my stuff on the relays that we have in common, but no cuz if they’re not on my relay they wouldn’t see it?

Still learning how Nostr works 😅

I am not yet doing this. But am also planing to set up my own relay or possibly code my own relay.

reason is because, this is the only way to ensure all your messages are stored somewhere. Most of the other relays will purge or archive data after some time.

For this to really work though there needs to be client cooperation where the client will not post a note unless your relay is connected.

The relays don’t talk to each other.

Let me know how it goes #nostrdev #chicagoplebs

Oooooh ok. This is really informative. Thank you
