People might not know there are costs to running a Relay and the one time payments one are shutting down left and right because they can't keep up with the costs.

Monthly subs for a relay is the only way but what are people comfortable with paying monthly ?

It will all come down to how much it adopted and user count but does 1k sats sound reasonable per month ?

That's about $0.30 USD currently.

For Nostr to really explode it needs to be reliable and fast so paid relays are where it's going to start.

These prices are just out of thin air. Really just thinking out loud here 🤔.

Like, if you charge per event, you incentivize people to post quality over quantity to get their events stored on your relay. If they wanna shippost and comment on every little thing, adding more data to your relays storage, it’s gonna cost.

But how do you collect on this? I have no clue how to run a relay or charge people, but that’s my two sats ✌️

I like the idea but it will price people out of the relay and limit the adoption because content will be low although better quality.

The relay won't be to make money its more so this space can grow faster and I don't want to exclude people from that growth.

I personally think trying to keep it under $1 pm will be affordable for 99% of people and give that consistency and reliability that Nostr deserves.

At this point I’ll go up to 3k but the more I learn what it takes to keep the relays up, the more I’ll want to help.

It may be best to ask for “help as you can to keep this relay free” approach to test the waters…
