I think it could be very appealing to newbies. Like, there's a horde of techy dudes that insist on writing in vim, and I just don't get it, but there it is. There's some kind of appeal in certain limitations if it stands apart from other things.

Also I still consider myself a newbie. Been here maybe 2 months I think.

I think so too - coming from Twitter, no edits also meant a bit of "getting used to" for me personally. But I think it's worth getting used to as laid out to a) make #nostr more than just a niche twitter replacement but a new universal communication protocol

and b) just improve discussion culture In general. I think people think less about what they write and what impact it has on others when they can always revert and change history.

And just to get that out of the way, in case anybody think about this: I would never ever support a "clear name policy" or so other BS the corpo networks try to keep their users on bay. In my experience, even if you are a nym there is a reputation to lose (or to gain lol). And during my last years here I realized this is enough social pressure for most to stay reasonable. If not, I block them and carry on.

Yeah. I actually end up personifying this name way more than I would've thought. And I've thought of changing the name, since discovering a cult that holds my name in high regard, but doing so would potentially mean not being recognized by a few people here who I value. So reputation for a fake name is quite motivating.

Really, real names don't actually matter anymore, because bitcoin is a push payment system. The reason every company needed names before was because payments were pull oriented - you give details to a company that pulls from your bank. We can build the whole world on perfect anonymity now. Or more accurately, privacy can now fully close the gap with anonymity, or as much as individuals require. There's no longer any practical need for IDs in business.

I'm a sucker for weird cults, can you send me their name (DM is fine), I want to look them up lol

And yes, name changes are confusing here, but if you keep your picture for some weeks longer it's usually also no problem. Just don't change both at the same time. And if you wanna be double safe, DM those people you value

I don't remember the name, but if you search "saint Germain purple flame" it'll come up. I found several reddit posts talking about them, especially their weird perfectly maintained mansions they keep in major cities. Oh heck I can search it... One sec...

Oh, they have a bunch of names. Yeah just search that, its all the top results, all different names but same thing

Just... Be careful. The vibes I get from these websites kinda compels me to advise caution.

I'm not planning to interact, but thanks for the advice

I noticed you stopped talking right after I relayed how to find a cult... It made me wonder if you got sucked in that fast

Coincidence. It was five am already - thanks for noticing though 😅

I didn't join yet 😄

"yet"... 😒

Just kidding, don't worry. My devotion goes to Eris and "Bob". I won't join any other weirdo religion, two are enough. Unless the have a proper argument in favour of simulation theory... 😄

It would surprise me if they didn't

Don't advertise 🤣

Thanks, will check 😁
