That's a long, and rather sad, story. Phases of Marxism and Modernism over the past 100 years has taken a toll. Acts 20:17-38 lived out (wolves within, wolves without). The backlash against the modernist seminaries has bred widespread anti-intellectualism and anti-formalism. I was almost angry when I discovered the rich heritage of creeds, confessions, and catechisms in the Protestant/Reformed tradition--as you said, such a rich heritage, but also *answers* long fought for, clearly stated.
The church (always) needs men "who know the times" and are deeply rooted in Scripture, the "faith once delivered."
