A relay is just a server that relays notes you publish to people who follow you, and vice versa. You can share notes back and forth with people who are connected to the same relays as you.
A node refers to 2 different but related things. A bitcoin node contains a copy of the bitcoin blockchain and verifies that new blocks produced by miners are valid. A lightning node runs in conjunction with a bitcoin node to manage payment channels that allow lightning payments to be sent and received. If you use Alby, then you are using their node, which means they manage the channels. It also means they have custody of the sats in your Alby account, similar to a bank.
