I've always wondered why people watch movies. why stories can hook us. and every time I listen to an interview with a psychologist or other specialist who tries to explain all this I hear #Lost tv show as an example. what is it about it that makes people remember it twenty years later?

Lost is great! I was obsessed with it. It isn't a single thing that hooks, it is a great mix of things. And it is a rare case when the whole thing is bigger than just a sum of components - characters, innovative story telling, lots of mysteries, smoke monster, religious motives, time travel, numbers, flash backs, flash forwards. I wish I could erase my memory and watch it again as if haven't seen it before.

Btw, all TV series that Lindeloff has made are great. Each in its own way. He clearly has its own unique style.

Connection to the characters is the key ingredient, methinks. ABC gave Lindelof / Cuse and the writers a long runway to develop the characters on a deeper level than most shows allow for today. In the case of #LOST, not only does the viewer connect with the human characters, but the island and musical score are characters that add to the quality of the experience.
