Man, I really feel for the people there. Whatever had them got them in this situation, I’m sure many suffer from it.

Personally I have some boundaries under which I will move to another state. You could look at the state like a company that delivers services for your taxes and they have a monopoly on violence to take that tax. But often you can leave if you have enough capital or geographically independent earning capacity. The problem is the extreme ‘vendor lock-in’ they have on their citizens. That’s why we will swallow so much more than we actually want.
