the nostr.land nostr.build and nostr.wine services show that there is viable business models in supporting the open protocol (just like how yahoo, google, and microsoft bulit off email)

we are just waiting on more mature clients, more than anything

and they are the ones getting all the funds and they are so slow at enabling critical things like auth because they are so professional lol
