Granted it depends on the desired outcome, but if survival is the goal, I see it as a lot of time and effort invested that generally cannot be afforded in that scenario and is unnecessary for general hydration.

It depends. If you have ready access to a heat source (like a wood stove in the woods), then delegating distillation to a family member once a day lets them contribute to the whole and provides pristine drinking water for the home.

I reserve my distilling equipment for making moonshine and well, fuel if need be! If you have the power to spare, an AC unit evaporator coil in a water bath with a closed circuit coolant loop makes a dandy condenser. 😊
