If two parties have some sort of dealings, then each has a memory of their interaction. Each party can speak about their own memory of this; how could anyone prevent it? One could pass laws against it, but the freedom of speech, even more than privacy, is fundamental to an open society; we seek not to restrict any speech at all.

Corporate/government controlled social media has eliminated privacy to the point where we no longer have an open society. This causes people to get stuck in echo chambers. An open society, with free speech allows for error correction. If you say a racial slur or an anti-semitic
joke in a free and open society, it won't get censored, but someone will be there to tell you your out of line. In a closed society, this error correction doesn't exist. You just see more racial slurs and anti-semitic jokes and your opinions get reinforced.Banning this speech makes it worse because the people banned from one platform migrate to another platform that will not ban them, making them concentrate in even more closed echo chambers.
I want privacy because I want an open society. I also don't want public speech censored anymore. The unintended consequences are too great. That's why I'm bullish on nostr.
