My husband and I were discussing the difference between Twitter and Nostr last night.

He's been mostly on Twitter and I've been on Nostr for the last few months.

At first I didn't like Nostr because it was hard to find people I wanted to follow, but then I started hanging out in the global feed, to try to find more interesting people.

I didn't follow enough people to have an interesting enough personal feed to engage with.

My husband didn't like it because he got little to no engagement even though he posted some really valuable content.

So, in the last few months, I've figured out how to have fun using Nostr. I don't get a ton of engagement on each post, but I get some.

I scroll the global feed until I see something interesting and comment on it. I leave some jokes or encouragement or stories usually. Sometimes I leave small books and have been mistaken for a ReplyGirl, but I am real! 🤣

I've been getting zapped frequently for my content and have found more interesting people to follow.

I even sold one of my books, simply by liking someone's meme!!

My husband mentioned how he's been putting a lot of effort into twitter, but with little reward, and absolutely no zaps or tip in any way.

He's sold a handful of his books through Nostr, and maybe gotten one or two sales through twitter.

I explained how twitter isn't fun for me, because the algorithms push people who already have a huge following, and their tweets have like 500 comments and sure, someone might like my comment, but they'll rarely investigate past that point.

On Nostr, however, if someone likes my comment on someone's post that they follow, they might zap me, and they're more likely to click through to see if they wanna follow me, because Nostr doesn't hand feed us.

We need to scavenge our own feeds here, there is no algorithm that's gonna do it for us. If I like what someone wrote and I want more, I better grabb that person now.

Also, the ease of getting paid makes selling books so much easier. But the fact that I don't have to sell an entire book before getting zapped, but I actually get paid for my writing on the regular, simply because people can zap content they enjoy, is incredibly humbling and encouraging.

Also, twitter incentivizes people to be dramatic or sensational, whereas Nostr incentivizes people to be authentic and hope filled.

People engage with dramatic posts, but they pay for quality posts.

I think this is part of why I really enjoy my time here on Nostr, and my husband is seeing more and more reasons to engage more here too. 🤗

I hope you have enjoyed my little book of comparison 😅🤣

Have a lovely day!
