Do you mean custodial or self hosted lighting? To scale to 8 Billion users only custodial lighting will work and to make it scalable and private we need the ecash layer IMHO.
Does #Bitcoin need more scaling solutions? I think for now Lightning is good enough, but who knows what the future holds for us.
